The fact that millennia-old cultural sites and literature of the Kurdish people were destroyed in wars is not due to the ignorance of the people living there, but to a false belief in progress on the part of those in power, who suppressed every dissenting voice. But not only historical buildings were destroyed, also traditional ways of life, literature, art, culture and ways of living were suppressed against your presence in their cultural space.

The translator couple Ute Cantera-Lang and Rawezh Salim, who have been working intensively on translating Kurdish into literature since 2015, have been able to heal some of the Kurdish pain in literature.

In der deutschen Gegenwartsliteratur gibt es kaum Beispiele für eine solche Mischung aus Märchen und Realismus – umso schöner, dass Bachtyar Alis Romane diese Lücke füllen.
