The cradle of humanity and civilisation – Mesopotamia at the centre of a landmark event in Graz

Mesopotamia, the cradle of humanity and civilisation, is the focus of a fascinating event organised as part of the cultural work of the Austrian Mesopotamian Business Association. Scientists, historians, researchers and art historians from Austria, Germany, France and Italy are working tirelessly to uncover the hidden aspects of Mesopotamian research. However, the political situation in the region often hinders these efforts and conflicts with their scientific interests.

An outstanding contribution to the study of Mesopotamian history has been made by Soran Hamarash, a Kurdish writer, academic, historian and linguist. The result of nearly three decades of intensive research, Hamarash’s book provides groundbreaking insights into the Sumerian language and its crucial contribution to civilisation. Contrary to conventional wisdom, he emphasises that far from being isolated or extinct as previously thought, the Sumerian language is alive and well, with strong links to modern and Indo-European languages.

Hamarash’s work is not only a critical examination of conventional views of ancient history, but also a plea for the vitality and relevance of the Sumerian language. His meticulous research shows that Sumerian did not die out 4000 years ago, but evolved into a more recent form.

Soran Hamarash’s book serves as a catalyst for dialogue and encourages further research by shedding light on the essential role of language in the emergence of civilisation. One of Hamarash’s main arguments revolves around the Sumerians, who created writing and a highly developed civilisation in Mesopotamia.

The team of the Austrian Mesopotamian Business Association is passionate about presenting the heritage of Mesopotamia, especially the Sumerians, in Graz. On 14 December 2023, the European Capital of Culture 2003 will be the stage for a book presentation and discussion event for art, culture and university, which will make visible the significant civilisational contributions of this fascinating region.

The team of the Austrian Mesopotamian Business Association cordially invites you to cooperate and participate in order to enrich the cultural and art historical approaches together. This event promises to explore untrodden paths and uncover the hidden, and will undoubtedly bring the insights of Soran Hamarash to the forefront of future generations of scholars.
